The internet as it exists today - Jan/99 - is perhaps the best tool mankind has to start
a drastic alteration of our social institutions. THE INTERNET IS WITHIN THE SYSTEM. It is
not a form of anarchy or social destruction. The internet requires a certain infrastructure
in our society to maintain itself but there is a wide range of conditions which can be
altered in our society without threatening the existence of the internet. SO WHAT ? The greater the access of the individual to ALL LEVELS OF THE COLLECTIVE SOCIAL SYSTEM the greater that individual's chances are of developing their FULL HUMAN POTENTIAL. As each individual develops so does a free society. WITHOUT AN OPEN INTERNET WE WILL BECOME A POLARIZED AND STAGNANT SOCIETY The internet is the last of the "legal drugs" on earth. Truth is a drug. We all crave truth once we taste it. Many have never tasted "the good stuff" but the internet is an open candy store for the truth seeking junkie in us all. Our bizarre society has (up til now) operated on an exclusive control principle - those who control determine who gets the candy. We are no longer a society of children who need that control. We know what candy is and if we eat too much we experience the consequences. We are all grown up now - WE HAVE PASSED THE AGE OF JUVENILE RESTRAINT ... WE ARE NOW RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR ACTIONS ... TIME TO TAKE THE SHACKLES OFF ... In the same way that, upon reaching adulthood, we lose the "shelter" of non corporeal punishment as a juvenile, we now must assume responsibility for our individual actions but if the freedom to decide our actions is curtailed by society then what good is "adulthood"? Each individual adult should have unrestrained access to the internet just as they should have access to weaponry, medical and psychoactive substances, human sexuality and virtually anything available to anyone on Earth. CONTROL AND PUNISHMENT/CORRECTION OF ANY INDIVIDUAL SHOULD OCCUR ONLY WHEN THEY INJURE OR ABUSE THE ENVIRONMENT, INJURE OR ABUSE OTHER HUMANS OR ABUSE THEMSELVES AND THEREBY CAUSE INJURY OR ABUSE TO OTHERS OR THE ENVIRONMENT. We can no longer treat each individual as if they are all the same and impose "blanket restrictions" on us all. Each of us grow and develop with different needs and we should not be restricted when these needs arise. The internet is our best hope (with the exception of extraterrestrial or divine assistance) for true advancement as a species and we must not allow it to be restrained or controlled. Let it grow and let each man and woman have access to this amazing new... |
