I became an amateur radio operator in 1959 at the age of 12 ( KN8KBP - novice ).
For Detroit Edison in Detroit, Michigan I was a drafting detailer and did some work
on the Enrico Fermi nuclear power plant drawings.
At the University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan for the anesthesia department,
I maintained numerous surgical electronic monitors and companion
hardware. I performed in-room blood gas analysis (and other blood analysis)
during pediatric open heart surgery for about 200 surgeries. I gave a
class to medical students on the mechanics and principles
of several of the pieces of equipment they used during surgery and recovery. I evaluated
new equipment which outside vendors brought for sale. I helped develop a venting
system used to exhaust (into the ventilation system) the
anesthetized patients breath (laden with anesthetic gas) during surgery.
At Sycor in Ann Arbor, Michigan the technicians were responsible
for initial power up, debugging and
final adjustment of the computer system dot matrix printers. I designed a tool to precisely
adjust the tension on the drive belt of the printer. Dual trace triggered oscilloscopes
were used to set the drive mechanism of the printer. My supervisor and
I were sent to Paris, France for one week to study production techniques.
At Addington Labs (in the Silicon Valley) in Sunnyvale, California
I worked in the production tuning and testing of microwave integrated circuit
circulator isolators. Some of these components were used in our nuclear defense missiles.
In the Golden Goose Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada there were electromechanical slot
machines and a public address/music system to maintain. I purchased the first volt/ohm/amp meter
and created bench testing power supplies for myself and the other technicians.
At Hoskins Electronics in Las Vegas, Nevada I did warranty repairs for numerous
American and foreign electronic companies. I repaired color TVs, stereo amplifiers, cassette
and reel tape recorders, telephone answering machines, automobile sound systems,
microwave ovens, turntables, speakers, and miscellaneous electronic equipment.
The technicians were required to guarantee their work for 30 days or it was
reworked for free by that technician (parts extra). The salary was a percentage of the repair cost ONLY
(if you could not fix it you made NO money).
With Santa Barbara County in California, I was in charge of all audio, video and security
systems in the communications department (over $250,000 worth of equipment) including a cable TV
studio that could originate two separate programs which could be
broadcast simultaneously on two of the local cable channels (18 and 19). I modified the original
TV studio extensively and designed component circuits to enhance the efficiency and operation
of the studio. For the Board of Supervisors, I designed, bought the components, and built the
custom circuits needed for a complete rework of the public address system -
including a podium mounted speech timer. For the Sheriffs department (which actually took most
of my time) I designed, built, installed and maintained several security and alarm systems
including a complete audio and video system for the female minimum security facility. I was
responsible for all the electronics the main control room at the S.B. County main detention facility
(except for the two way radios) and was on call 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
This included more than 60 black and white cameras running 24 hours a day. I also designed
and bread boarded several other circuits for temporary use or for incorporation into
larger existing systems. I utilized solid state logic and integrated circuits in my designs.
I also had equipment to maintain in the municipal and superior court rooms, audio recording
equipment used in legal recording of all communications from the sheriffs dispatch center,
fire department intercoms at the stations, and other devices for the special services,
detectives, marshall, district attorney, and the psychiatric facilities (alarms and audio).
I drew and updated system diagrams of all major systems I maintained (there were none
when I started) and I drew the circuit diagrams for all the circuitry I designed (some
of which are in this online resume). Computers were first brought into our
department when I was employed and I did most of the developing and nearly all
of the programming of our department's budgetary database on an IBM PC using Dbase II
programming language and a professional database applications software.
At Sam's Family Spa in Desert Hot Springs, California I set up several billing
and accounting databases, created custom programs for Sam's, and was the computer
system coordinator for new software and upgrading.
At iNET AD in Desert Hot Springs, California in partnership with Judy Lea,
I became an authorized independent internet advertising consultant for the iMALL,
and webmaster for several web sites on the internet. I learned HTML (internet programming)
and created more than 400 pages on the internet including a site for the city of Desert
Hot Springs California with over 90 pages.
For the I.S.P.s in the Houston, Texas area (three in all - each was purchased by the next) I was a telephone
technical support technician. I assisted customers in setting
up their computers for internet use including sending and receiving email. I did learn some system
administration functions. I was able to remotely access the servers using Telnet and VNC. I performed some
system backup, some file maintenance, and limited functions dealing with the creation and maintenance of
hosted domains. I instigated and completed an online help web site for Dialaccess customers which was
incorporated into the WT.net system after the buy out.
My personal domains (terraseetch.com and photonwillie.com) were established during my
employment with Dialaccess (1998 and 1999 respectively) and are still online today.
I have continued to receive requests
for web site creation and web page repair since their inception - including my largest
web site of over 300 pages for a local company here in Atwood Kansas.
I have several established clients (world wide) that
continue to utilize my services.
